Hello! My name is Jeanna Osborne and I have been delivering share in County Durham for the past two years. In April 2005 I was appointed as the Share Co-ordinator for the whole of Durham. As you can imagine, I have been very busy driving from one side of Durham to the other trying to meet as many teachers, tutors, facilitators, learners and families as I can.
My role is to train the facilitators, help establish Share in schools / surestarts /children’s centres / colleges and community centres all over Durham, update the website (hope it’s useful) help with accreditation and support teachers.
This is the first newsletter and I hope it will be of interest.
Website UpdateI am busy updating the website, there’ll be a dad’s page, facilitators’ page, feature stories and quizzes, let me know what else you want and I’ll try my best.
We have named our badger Prince. His name was chosen because he lives in Durham, land of the Prince Bishops. He has made lots of friends and travelled to many different places, photographs from his travels can be found on the Family Learning website.
Should any other school / organisations like their photographs included on the website, please send them to me. Please note: I must have a photograph consent form from parent/carer of any child appearing in the photograph. If it is only the badger I just need the owner’s permission to publish. Start sending your photos and a brief article and I’ll get it on to the website!
Share School of ExcellenceDeaf Hill Primary has been put forward for a Continyou Share school of Excellence Certificate. This is the first school in Durham to be nominated. The work Jan Johnson has done in making Family Learning a major part of school life is phenomenal. Congratulations to Jan, the school and particularly the parents of Deaf Hill Primary.
Share Works!Deaf Hill Primary School has run Family Learning courses for 5 years. The last two years Share has been part of their provision. Barbara Setterfield sent a letter to Continyou and had it printed in an article ( full article on our website).
‘When I was asked if I’d like to come along to the first Share meeting I did not think my life would change so much……..the little Share badger is helping to make many changes to all the people he comes in contact with. Five years ago, if you had told me at the age of 66 I would write this letter to you on a computer, I would have cried with laughter! We have proved that Share is for all the family’.
Barbara Setterfield.

Accreditation Success Stories Brandon Infants have decided with their facilitators support to go for accreditation. Caroline Jones a teacher at Brandon Infants has been running their class on a Thursday after school 3:15-4:15. The work is of such a high standard I’m thinking of pinching some of their ideas!
Deafhill have put their learners forward for accreditation this term, Jan Johnson their facilitator, a teacher from the school said ‘the ladies have worked so hard, we’re now moving on to healthy Share.’ No stopping this school!
Greenlands Infants have enjoyed their classes so much they have decided they want accreditation. Rose Bainbridge a teacher from the school has led the class to success, the group have put their portfolios forward for accreditation in July.
If any facilitator needs help with the accreditation process please get in touch.
I’m here to support you! |
