Fun and Games - Write your own Story

Use the words and pictures from this page to make your very own fairy story. We recommend that children who are aged 4 - 7 years should ask for help from an adult. However, if you are 7 - 11 years or older, you might like to try this activity on your own!

You Will Need:

  • Up to 1 hour of spare time
  • A pen or pencil
  • 2 sheets of blank A4 paper, one to print on and one to write on.
  • A4 printer (to print out the picture page)
  • Scissors
  • A Glue stick
  • Colouring pencils or felt-tip pens

Remember: Always take care when using scissors and glue. Ask an adult to help.

What To Do:

First of all, read the words above each row of pictures. Try to finish each sentence by choosing a picture from the row. This will help you to plan what your story is going to be about.

Once up on a time there was a

Hamdsome Prince, Frog, Young Girl
who lived in a
Castle, Cottage, Pond
One day a
Dragon, Fairy Godmother, Wizzard
came along who
Magic Wand, Angry Dragon, Abracadabra
and the
Handsome Prince, Frog, Young Girl
turned into a
Jam Sandwich, Robot, Story Teller

Next, when you are happy with your plan, go to the printable pictures page and print out a copy of the pictures.

On a blank sheet of paper, write the first line of the story, then cut out a picture from your printed page, and stick it to your story.

Continue writing lines and sticking in pictures until your story is complete.

Finally, colour all of the pictures in your story.

When you are done you can read your story to a friend!

Back to games list.
