SchoolZone (www.schoolzone.co.uk) Providing free resources, lists of events, details of around 35,000 schools, colleges and LEAs, as well as educational suppliers, educational products and education/children's books.
Skills for Families (http://www.skillsforfamilies.org/) A series of downloadable handbooks providing guidance on all aspects of Family Literacy, Language and Numeracy programmes developed by the Basic Skills Agency, on behalf of the Learning and Skills Council and the Adult Basic Skills Strategy Unit.
Spark Island (www.sparkisland.com) This site has sections for parents and children, with a wide range of interactive learning activities. The parents' section includes 'Boredom Busters' - an excellent free facility, searching for attractions and special events within 10-50km of your postcode area.
Topologika (www.topologika.co.uk) Gives a list of educational websites with a description of each one. The sites are in two groups: information sites for parents and teachers, and activity sites for children and teachers.
www.familyreading.org.uk (www.literacytrust.org.uk/familyreading/parents/links.html) Gives a list of websites offering advice and guidance to parents about reading: learning to read, supporting children's reading, reading to children, sharing books and activities for children. Each website has a short description.
K'NEX (www.knexusergroup.org.uk/acatalog/knex-family-learning.html) K'NEX is a fun to use and relatively low cost resource for all age groups from 5 up to adult. Family Learning sessions may utilise it to develop essential workplace skills in technology, innovation, problem-solving and teamwork.
